Concept Art - Tatu - Anima Jam Lite 2023

[ENG] Tatu is an animated short film made for the Anima Jam Lite festival; the goal of the festival is to have teams make an animation at a short schedule and exhibit them to the public to encourage independent artists with their projects. The theme for this one was “mini-worlds”.

In this short film, the main character is a pill bug who accidentally goes inside a terrarium and meets new friends there - a snail and a fly. Together, they have to explore that new environment and go on a new adventure.

For the concept art of this short film, I did researches on different types of small plants and animals who would fit nicely inside a terrarium. The goal in the short film was to make the scenery look like a huge place, since it is shown in the bug’s POV. The characters were based on the real ones with a cartoony twist that would help make their expressions pop in the scenes.

[PT-BR] Tatu é um curta animado feito para o festival Anima Jam Lite; o objetivo deste festival é juntar times para fazer uma animação com um prazo curto e exibi-las para o público para encorajar artistas independentes com seus projetos. O tema escolhido para essa edição foi “minimundos”.

Nesse curta, o personagem principal é um tatu-bolinha que acidentalmente vai parar dentro de um terrário e conhece novos amigos por lá - um caramujo e uma mosquinha. Juntos, eles têm que explorar aquele novo ambiente e viver uma nova aventura.

Para a arte conceitual desse curta, eu fiz pesquisas sobre tipos diferentes de mini plantas e animais que caberiam dentro de um terrário. O objetivo nesse curta era fazer o cenário parecer com um lugar enorme, já que ele se passa no ponto de vista do Tatu-bolinha. Os personagens são baseados nos animais reais com uma pegada cartunesca que ajudou a destacar suas expressões nas cenas.
